Good Faith Estimates

For qualifying uninsured or self-pay health care, there is a right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges.

An estimate is provided when required by federal law after a service is scheduled, or upon request. It includes expected charges for reasonably expected services. An estimate is not a bill or a guarantee of the final cost.

If a bill from a provider is at least $400 more than that provider’s estimate, a federal patient-provider dispute process may be available. Keep a copy of the estimate and bill.

Ask about an estimate by calling (505) 585-4062. The application of these rules to a particular employer-paid DOT occupational service must be evaluated separately.
